Better Winch:

Version 1.0.0.2

This addon extends the capabilities of the in game winch system, allowing it to attach and move things other than trees. Anything with trailer-type attacher joints, as well as dynamic objects like bales and pallets are also supported.

This was written as part of a collaboration with Roughneck Modding Crew for use with their upcoming line of winch enabled mods.

This is done by targeting either tension belt or collision enabled shapes with the cpu mesh flag set. The mod includes a small "hard point" attachment shape that is automatically injected into many in game vehicles at the trailer attacher locations.

These hard points can also be created and added to any location inside of a vehicle or object i3d to allow the winch to attach to those locations as well. These nodes can take three user attributes as well.

  • thWidth (float): The width or size of the object along the X axis
  • thLength (float): The length or size of the object along the Z axis
  • thHeight (float): The height or size of the object along the Y axis

Additionally the attachment "ring" can be made larger or smaller with the use of two binds. These are registered to right-shift + colon, right-shift + quote by default. It is also possible to change the attachment ring orientation by pressing right-shift + L by default.

That's it, it's pretty much a plug and play system. The only configuration really required would be if you wanted to add more attachment points to different vehicles than are already injected into the game.

Known Issues/Game Limitations:

  • When dragging the rope, it may knock objects even large tractors around like they are weightless. This is just something to do with the vanilla physics and nothing directly related to this mod.
  • Some objects may not show the rope wrapped around it. This is because the rope itself requires a cpu mesh enabled shape to display. This is sometimes the case with tension belt objects like pallets. The actual mesh is at the bottom, but I let any place on the object be wrapped.
  • Hook orientation is sometimes at random. The hook generally shows wherever the cursor is when you click attach. The orientation of the hook, however, I'm not exactly sure how that is determined. Seems to be at random.
  • Pulling vehicles in reverse sometimes makes them behave funny. Haven't quite figured out why just yet. I think it has something to do, again, with the game physics. It's like they were only designed to move forward when pulled so they try to right themselves.
  • The reason things like 3 point hitches are not currently attachable by default is because those joint type nodes are not where the visuals are. They float out away from the vehicle in between the arms. Putting an attach point there can cause issues and does not look right. That being said, I am looking for other places I can use instead.

I think that's it. Have fun!

You should add this feature to FS2

Hi, i see on modDesc the version is wrong than changelog (<version>1.0.0.0</version> instead v1.0.0.1), please fix in future updates, thanks

I can confirm the 8r problem as well. The wheeled tractors seem to work ok but have less traction over all.

nvm i never downladed thwe mod i am retarded

(+1)

how does this work? i have no clue

I am having an issue with the base game John Deere 8R. When I have this mod loaded in the game it causes the John Deere to not turn corners. I don't believe this is a mod conflict because I loaded only the Winch in the game with no other mods and it still wouldn't let the tractor turn.

I experienced the same issue with the 8R

Can confirm I also experienced this

Same with the 7r as well.

same here, back drifts

love it

In the vehicle xml of the mod I want to add it to, I put this in the winch section correct?

  • thWidth (float): The width or size of the object along the X axis
  • thLength (float): The length or size of the object along the Z axis
  • thHeight (float): The height or size of the object along the Y axis

Then where do I find the collision box to paste onto the equipment?

Hi, this is can use also for connect tractor with tractor if one of them is damaged? Such as rope or chain..

If one of those tractors is equipped with a winch, then yes you can tow broken machinery in for repairs if you wanted to.

(-1)

Ah ok, i not see any tractors with winch.. The tow bar or chain for this, it's need a lot..

Serious question. Is there a single tractor with a winch on it?  Aside from the special forestry ones ofc

In the vanilla game, not really since the winches are designed for trees. With this, though, there are no forestry vs normal winches. All winches can hook up to most objects in the game. The two vanilla ones I tested with are the Tajfun winch and the Pfanzelt PM Trac III.

Thanks for your hard work as well as Roughneck Moddings work on this too amazing job😊😊⭐⭐⭐🙏✝️
